DataTalks 2018 kicks off a long term collaboration between Dream11, Vishal Misra from Columbia University, Devavrat Shah, Professor at MIT and Muhammad Jehangir Amjad, Lecturer of Machine Learning, CSAIL, MIT.

Our esteemed guest, Prof. Vishal Misra discusses the RSC technique, it’s primary applications and scope of development.

Meeting Demand with Supply, one game at a time

Not every sport is as popular as the other. Even similar matches between different teams have a difference in popularity levels. In terms of sports gaming, different matches would need a different number of contests, based on popularity. Dream11’s Arkid Mitra discusses how our Contest Generation Engine matches demand to supply by finding latent factors. This makes a match more vs less popular and generates contests which a human would have generated at that point in time.

Identifying violators in a sea of payment transactions

Identifying singular irregular activities from millions of daily active transactions cannot be a manual exercise. Dream11’s Aditya Narisetty describes our journey building the first FPV detector and enabling it to classify such instances with 0.9 AUC, at this scale.

About Prof. Vishal Misra:

Vishal Misra is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University, with a joint appointment in the Electrical Engineering Department and a visiting scientist at Google. He is an IEEE Fellow and his research emphasis is on mathematical modelling of networking systems and bridging the gap between practice and analysis.

He served as the Vice-Chair of the Computer Science Department at Columbia University from 2009 to 2011, and in 2011 he spun out Infinio, a company in the area of data centre storage. He is also credited with inventing live-microblogging at cricinfo, a company he co-founded while a graduate student at UMass Amherst, predating Twitter by 10 years. (cricinfo was later acquired by ESPN).

He also played an active part in the Net Neutrality regulation process in India, where his definition of Net Neutrality was adopted both by the citizen’s movement as well as the regulators, leading to the strongest Net Neutrality protections anywhere in the world.
